My Tim Tebow moment.

Three days ago, a mysterious post went out to all my subscribers titled “319.”

I didn’t write any such post, nor send it out, and when you clicked on the title, you were sent to a dead zone. This made me hysterical for a few hours, since this is a new blog and I want it to be perfect, or at least not a total annoyance.

My husband, the football fan, said, “Wow, what was that 319 post? It was like a Tim Tebow moment.”

Tim Tebow, as you may not be aware, is the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, an ardent Christian, and often appears on the field with the number of a gospel passage written on his eye-black, particularly John 3:16: which reads “And God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  The fact that Tebow threw an overtime, Hail Mary pass to clinch a victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday — a game in which he threw 316 passing yards and averaged 31.6 yards a pass, threw the winning pass to a guy born on Christmas Day, and earned TV ratings of 31.6 is just .. a coincidence.

My Bible verse, 3:19 is a little more sinister and I think bears witness to the ghost in the wordpress machine: “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

Yikes!! I’m hoping you don’t get any more 319’s from me … and I apologize for the snafu, although clearly, darker forces are at work here. Anybody got garlic??

Happy Saturday, y’all !!

thank you for clearing up best you could the little mystery…..

  2. Haha hilarious! Garlic and some holy water for sure. I am definitely on the Tebow train! Just a really nice guy who does lots of really nice things for people who need it. So now that the Falcons are out…Go Broncos!

    • Hi Kashi! After all my years in Denver, I’m definitely on the Broncos train — as for Tebow, I guess there are a lot worse things an NFL star quarterback could be doing than promoting the Bible. I mean, can anybody spell Michael Vick?? (although I think he paid his dues and I hope he stays healthy)

  3. These snafus happen with WordPress from time to time. I’ve not had it happen to my blog, that I’m aware of, but I have gotten emails about posts from other blogs I subscribe to that have lead to similar dead ends. It’s all good——–

  4. Don’t know where I was that day Betty, but I don’t think I got it. Hmmm. I feel so left out.

Are you sure it was a “Hail Mary” pass he threw. 😉

Ever heard: “Drop kick me Jesus, through the goal posts of life”?

    • Well, Sybil, my husband gently corrected me that it was NOT a loooonnnngggg Hail Mary pass, but a short pass to Thomas who then ran it 80 yards for a touchdown — so I stand corrected. And how weird that not everybody got the 319 post — that’s even weirder!!!

  5. Too funny! I missed it, too. But I’ve got my crucifix and Hail Mary’s ready, just in case. Devil be gone!

You are hilarious! Thanks for your always-good-humored perspective.

  7. I don’t have an email subscription, but instead have your feed on my iGoogle home page. It didn’t show up there.

    Looking forward to this blog.

I got the 319 post – and it was a gorgeous film of women and children singing a “Kinikizi Welcome”, which I really liked. Wasn’t it yours? It was an embedded YouTube film which looked like it had been filmed on your Ugandan trip. I really liked it!

    • Mystery solved!! Thanks so much for that, Sarah — I uploaded the video on vodpod (it’s in a widget on the right of my post) .. and is the perfect way to introduce you to the fabulous diction of the Ugandans’ English! It was my first video filmed with my camera, and hence a bit jumpy and weird, but I loved it, too! Now just have to figure out a way to upload to vodpod without it doing an automatic post (with no content for most people) … but naturally, you got exactly what I intended! Brilliant!!

  9. I did not get (or did not notice) the email Betty, but if I did, I would have deferred to your marketing genius and assumed the message was just over my head.

I hope you had a nice holiday weekend. –SD
