Having lived through a nemubr of hurricanes, the reality is that not only are these folks suffering now, but they will be suffering for many years to come.It will take years and an enormous amount of funds to rebuild the infrastructure, not to mention building dwellings, schools, and stores. One can only hope that the internatinal community continues to supprt the people in Haiti. Then, one can only hope that they will have leadership that supports the people of Haiti.
Very well, said, Bhaskar … and you are quite right about rebuilding infrastructure. Having just been in China and witnessing the rebuilding of Sichuan after the massive earthquake … it’s quite obvious that this kind of enterprise can only happen with the central government’s help. Maybe it’s time for the international aid community to get behind the government and insist upon transparency, legitimacy and accountability … but let them begin to develop competence and confidence in getting the job done!!
